During a stay in the hospital, patients and their families rely on the support of Child Life specialists. Child Life specialists are individuals professionally trained in child development to help cope with stressful, challenging events, such as illness, or in this case, also a pandemic.

By using therapeutic play, education, and creative age-appropriate activities that facilitate expression of thoughts and emotions our child life specialists promote growth and development. This is vitally important during such a time, as the way children manage stress and trauma differs greatly from the way adults do.

The Child Life program offers an opportunity for children to engage in childhood activities to help minimize anxiety. The program provides therapeutic, educational, and recreational activities to meet the unique emotional and developmental needs of children.

As we navigate through this unprecedented time, it is not lost on us that many of our patients have experienced a similar kind of isolation. CCF is dedicated to supporting the Child Life program through snack, craft, and activity packs. By doing so, we are able to champion patients in their fight against pediatric cancer.
