The Key to Giving Back

Children’s Cancer Fund’s Teen Board mission is to support Children’s Cancer Fund’s mission, Team Michael’s mission, raise cancer awareness in the community, and develop the next generation of leaders in the battle against pediatric cancer.

THANK YOU

for another successful Team Michael Toy Drive

Meet Michael Malone

Michael Malone was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma when he was four years old in December 2009. Alison, Michael’s mother, remembers his many, lengthy hospitalizations. Children’s Health is where Michael spent countless days, nights, and weeks during his early school years. At Children’s he read books for the first time, lost baby teeth, hunted for Easter eggs, and spent many holidays and weekends surrounded by family, friends and his medical team.

Michael’s legacy spreads far and deep because of his family and friends. Michael’s family started the Team Michael Toy Drive in June 2013 on his birthday a year after he died and have partnered with Children’s Cancer Fund to continue this tradition. In the ten years since he passed away, over $100,000 in toys and gift cards have been donated to Children’s Health to fill the toy closets and game rooms and make hospitalizations a little bit brighter for other children with cancer and blood disorders.

Alison brought her family’s Team Michael efforts to CCF in 2020. She serves on the Advisory Board and is now CCF Teen Board Liaison. Alison feels it is so fitting to join efforts with CCF as she remembers how much fun Michael had participating in the CCF Annual Gala and walking down the aisle with his sponsor, Chuck E. Cheese, in 2010.

The CCF Gala was one of Michael’s favorite days while he was sick and suffering through treatments. He loved the fashion show and loved meeting the Honorary Co-Chairs and Dallas Cowboys legendary quarterbacks, Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach.

So many people continue to remember Michael and his journey. His life was cut too short, and we will continue to honor his memory with acts of bringing joy to other pediatric cancer patients in limitless ways.
